Trade mark rights are strictly territorial. The mark must be registered in each country in which it is sought to protect it. With one application for international registration of a trade mark, the applicant for the trade mark may provide protection for the trade mark more than 120 countries around the world. In order to apply for a trade mark for international registration, the trade mark must be registered or registered for registration in Latvia. Trade marks registered in the International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Organisation shall be valid for a period of 10 years and may be renewed for a period of 10 years by the corresponding payment of the fees provided for in the international registration rules.
