In order to promote the awareness of Liepāja citizens of the protection of intellectual property, to educate people to form habits of buying authentic products on a daily basis, as well as to promote Liepāja as a city that recognizes authentic products and does everything necessary to fight against counterfeits and their distribution, on Tuesday, 28 February, Liepāja municipal authorities will conclude a memorandum of understanding with the Patent Office on cooperation in the European Cooperation Project "European Network of Authenticities".

At the January meeting of Liepaja City Council, it was decided to conclude a memorandum of understanding with the Patent Office, defining the duties and responsibilities of the parties for the participation and cooperation in the project " European Network of Authenticities ", financed by the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

Within the framework of the project, it is planned to organize various informative and educational events and activities to draw the public’s attention to the importance of authentic products and services, the ability to recognise fake goods, etc. The main goal is to promote awareness of the importance of original designs, authentic products and services through various public activities.

Among the European cities that have already joined the project are Thessaloniki and Mykonos (Greece), Sofia and Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Banská Bystrica (Slovakia), Madrid (Spain), Lisbon (Portugal), etc. Currently, the municipality of Liepāja is the only one from Latvia that has been invited to participate in the project.

The memorandum of understanding between Liepāja Municipality and the Patent Office will be signed at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, 28 February, in the premises of Liepaja Music, Art and Design Secondary School at Alejas Street 18.

Anyone interested is invited to the event, especially representatives of creative industries. The event will be attended by representatives of Liepāja Municipality, the Patent Office, Liepaja Music, Art and Design Secondary School, "The European Capital of Culture 2027" project, the State Police, customs authorities, the State Border Guard, creative businesses, and other related industries. There is also planned a free format discussion on various authenticity issues.
