Pieturzīmes (Punctuation marks) as the rhythm of life and organiser of thought

The name of the trademark was inspired by the company’s owner Aiga Veckalne's interest in language. The second source of inspiration was epiphany about punctuation marks by Imants Ziedonis.

Aiga Veckalne says: “Punctuation marks are tools for organizing thought and clarifying meaning. They help the reader understand the author's thoughts, the rhythm of the text, and the relationships between words, sentences, and paragraphs. Without punctuation marks, a sentence becomes ambiguous, incomprehensible, or even misleading.”

Pieturzīmes  LLC was founded in 2010, but it acquired its current name with the change of ownership in 2019. The company operates in the field of language services and training, offering training in effective communication, text editing and translation, lectures on modern and harmonious language, as well as other services.

The procedure for The Trademark of the Year award is organized in two stages. First, once a quarter, experienced LPO experts select four trademarks in the Trademark of the Year for Latvia nomination and four trademarks - in the Trademark of the Year for the European Union nomination, which are further forwarded for the second evaluation stage. The winner of the Trademark of the Year award is determined among 16 trademarks registered with the LPO under the national procedure and 16 trademarks registered with the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
