On Wednesday, 9 July 2025, addressing the audience at the 66th Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Agris Batalauskis, Director of the Latvian Patent Office (LPO), commended WIPO for its visionary leadership and strategic initiatives in the development of the field of intellectual property (IP).
A. Batalauskis stressed: “It is truly inspiring that WIPO does not stop at what has been achieved but is proactively addressing future IP challenges together with its Member States. Moreover, this progressive vision is fully consistent with Latvia's approach, and we want to continue to be a reliable partner for WIPO.”
The LPO Director expressed his gratitude to WIPO for the constructive cooperation, which has significantly strengthened the IP system in Latvia and the Baltic States. This partnership has delivered real and measurable results, including significant support for technology transfer centres, as well as for improving knowledge of judges and law enforcement authorities, and educating young people. A. Batalauskis emphasized the significance of the recent visit of WIPO Director General Darren Tang to Latvia, which has facilitated high-level dialogues desperately needed by industry on the role of IP in Latvian innovation ecosystem.
LPO Director also expressed support for WIPO's ongoing efforts to assist Ukraine's innovation and creativity sector and IP system, which continues to suffer from the damage caused by Russia's unfair and unjustified war. Therefore, A. Batalauskis urged WIPO to continue its supporting activities to restore Ukraine's innovation and IP system, as well as to do everything possible to respect Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
