The submission of applications for the Latvian Intellectual Property Award “Visionary” (Visionary Award) has closed, and a total of nine applications has been received at the Latvian Patent Office (LPO). The Award is open to both innovative companies and individuals who have made a significant contribution to the development of the intellectual property (IP) system and innovation in Latvia.

Among the applicants are companies that have developed innovative technologies in various sectors, operate in the domestic market and export to a number of countries outside Latvia. There are also individuals representing various sectors,  who have contributed to the development of the IP system over many years of their activities.

All submissions will be evaluated by a jury established by the LPO, comprising experts from the LPO, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, Riga Technical University, the Central Statistical Bureau, the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, the Latvian Council of Science, and the news portal “Delfi”. To ensure a more comprehensive assessment by the jury, meetings with the award nominees are planned in order to become personally acquainted with their contributions to the field.

The Visionary Award is granted by the LPO for an innovative product or service that has contributed to the development of the sector, has high development potential, and a positive impact on the national or international economy, or for a significant contribution to the development of the sector at the national or international level. Once a year, in accordance with the assessment of the jury, the award is presented to one or two nominees:

  • creators of IP (natural or legal persons) for a product or service that has contributed to the development of the sector, has high development potential, and a positive impact on the national or international economy;
  • natural persons (experts in the field of IP) for a significant contribution to the development of the sector at the national or international level.

The winner will be announced at the Latvian Intellectual Property Awards ceremony on 22 April.
