The EUIPO Trade Mark and Design Education Programme (ETMD EP) is a training programme for intellectual property practitioners. It was created in 2018.  It is a practical programme, delivered by EUIPO staff, leading IP professionals and academics. The ETMD EP focuses on the interaction between the EUIPO and IP practitioners in trade mark and design registration and prosecution.

The programme will be held in English only and will run from September 2020 to June 2021, with approximately 150 hours of tuition, combining e-learning, webinars and two 3-day workshop sessions at the EUIPO in Alicante, Spain. It concludes with final examination consisting of both a written and an oral exam, the latter will take place at the EUIPO in Alicante, successful candidates will be awarded an EUIPO certificate.

About the course

The EUIPO Trade Mark and Design Education Programme has been specially designed to accommodate the training needs of intellectual property practitioners dealing with the registration and prosecution of European Union trade marks and Community designs.

A comprehensive curriculum of approximately 150 hours of tuition will guide participants through all aspects of European Union trade mark and Community design law and how the EUIPO applies the law in practice. It also covers proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union and other selected IP issues.

Registration is limited to 60 persons, on a first come, first served basis, and will be open from 18 May 2020 until 30 June 2020.

The 2020/2021 course runs from 2 September 2020 to 8 June 2021. Several weeks throughout the course, such as those preceding sessions in Alicante and Christmas and Easter holidays, are non-elective.

2 September 2020 — Start of the course 19-21 October 2020 — First workshop session, EUIPO, Alicante, Spain 22-24 March 2021 — Second workshop session, EUIPO, Alicante, Spain 7-8 June 2021 — Final examination, EUIPO, Alicante, Spain.
