On Tuesday, 19 August, in the “Ratnieki” recreation and conference complex in the Līgatne Parish of the Cēsis Municipality, the regional seminar, organised in collaboration with the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for young people from the Baltic States has begun, the target of which is to enhance knowledge and practical skills in the fields of intellectual property, creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

This is the first international seminar of such a type, where the young people from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia under the guidance of international lecturers, will actively participate and engage in exploring intellectual property (IP)-related topics.

This seminar is held in cooperation with the Estonian and Lithuanian IP offices, bringing together almost 40 young people from all three Baltic States. In the seminar, Latvia will be represented by young people from seven higher education institutions: the University of Latvia, the Riga Technical University (RTU), the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, the RTU Rēzekne Academy, the RISEBA University of Applied Sciences, Turība University, and the Ventspils University of Applied Sciences.

"We are pleased and proud that Latvia is the first country in the European Union to host an international multi-day seminar held for young people during which its participants will be able to explore at an in-depth level the IP-related matters and understand the impact of the IP field on economy. Such events are an excellent way to directly disseminate information and knowledge to young people – one of our main target audiences who are both future creators of IP and entrepreneurs," said Ēriks Rēķis, deputy director of the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia.

Over these four days, the young participants will engage in lectures and group work to learn about creative thinking and the magic of innovation, about how to benefit from the advantages of copyright, and gain an insight into the main aspects of invention patents. Also, they will be given the opportunity to discover the potential of their inner entrepreneur and learn to use the benefits of IP in successful business and explore the interaction among IP, design, and brands.

In the seminar, international experts representing the fields of IP, business, and creative industries will share their advice and information about current trends.

At the end of the event, the participants will receive certificates confirming the completion of the topics covered, and the new knowledge acquired will be a valued base for their future development, fostering the creation of new innovations and ideas, as well as establishing their own businesses.
