Having evaluated trademarks registered by Latvian applicants in Latvia and the European Union in the first quarter 2025, an expert committee of the Latvian Patent Office selected the first eight candidates for the main award of the Trademark of the Year 2025. In a series of publications, we will introduce the companies – owners of creative, expressive and witty trademarks that are the candidates for the main award in various nominations.

Melt – flavour that melts on the tongue
Trademark “Melt” is included in the brand portfolio by company “Green Distribution”, and it symbolizes a feeling of taste literary merging with taste buds. It reflects the harmony between ingredients and taste for pleasure created by a refined balance of flavours.
“Green Distribution” is an international wholesale company that cooperates with retail chains, HoReCa, and other distributors across Europe. The company is constantly expanding its product range, offering carefully selected high-quality food and beverages and these include brands “Melt”, “MiniPixi”, and “OneScandinavian tea”.

Veldze – a place creativity is reborn
Creative space trademark “Veldze” has been selected to highlight the history of the former beverage factory at Matīsa iela 8 and the idea of lemonade which creates a feeling of joy – “Veldze” was one of the first factories in the Baltic States to start producing Pepsi and Fanta in the ‘80s of the 20th century, and in the ‘90s, they also started the production of Coca Cola.
From September 2024, real estate development project “Radošā rūpnīca Veldze” was started in the former factory producing lemonade and other drinks and which already this summer, will provide refreshment for the residents of the neighbourhood and visitors in the historical centre of Riga boasting a green, modern venue and the territory for work, recreation, and entertainment.
Zane Ruģēna, the executive director of “Radošās rūpnīcas Veldze”, says that “currently, “Radošā rūpnīca Veldze” is open to the creation of unique and modern cultural environment, bringing together businesses, the representatives of cultural and creative industries, and residents. In the future, the potential production of beverages and other expanded business perspectives are planned in “Veldze”. So far, the territory of the former lemonade factory has surprised us both by its diverse history and wonderful cooperation partners inspiring us to create “Veldze” and turn it into one of the most unusual development projects in Riga.”
