Having assessed the Latvian trademarks registered in Latvia and Europe, the expert committee of the Latvian Patent Office has selected the first eight applicants for the main award of the Trademark of the Year 2024 competition. From now on, once a quarter, in a series of publications, we will introduce the companies – owners of creative, expressive and witty trademarks, candidates for the main award of the competition selected in various nominations.

Delicious knitwear that warms and inspires…
KOLIBRI adījumi LLC was founded three years ago, but for the company’s founder Daira Mališeva, knitting has been her job and passion for a long time. Each product created in her workshop is cherished, and that’s why Daira likes to stress that her knitwear gives something more than warmth.
Soft merino wool knitted cardigans, mock turtlenecks, soft kid mohair/silk button cardigans, honeycomb jumpers and also marshmallow jackets. The range of knitwear is wide, and an essential feature of the company is that the products are created in close cooperation with customers.
“I would like to say that we create together with our customers, because it often happens that they suggest the best solutions as for colours, buttons, and design,” explains Daira Malysheva and continues, “also the trademark ZEFĪRJAKA has been recommended by the client. I asked my social network followers to help me come up with the best name for a soft and airy jacket. I liked the apt ZEFĪRJAKA right away, because it best describes this jacket, which is light and airy like a marshmallow, and just like with marshmallows, one piece is often not enough – you want more... For the others not to be tempted to use this tasty name for their products, we decided to register the trademark without delay.”

From trade in industrial products to manufacture of children's toys
The “PTP STORE” company was founded in 2004 and its main areas of operation are the trade of industrial and agricultural products and services. At the end of 2023, despite of its specialisation in the technical sector, the company decided to expand its activities in a completely new role – to produce toys from high-quality materials safe for children and the environment under the trademark DESIGNS CALL.
Head of the company Sandris Šveisbergs says: “We have been thinking about the opportunity to try our abilities in the new industry for a long time. Last year, the moment came to move from our visions to actions. Step by step, we started to implement the children’s toy production project. When we had developed and certified the first prototypes, we realized that we needed an expressive, attractive trademark, and thanks to the designer’s vision, the DESIGNS CALL logo was born. The next step was a consultation with an expert from the Patent Office followed by the registration of the European Union trademark.
The DESIGNS CALL products are modern, eco-friendly and useful in daily life. They are designed for children’s play activities, development and everyday solutions. The products are manufactured in Latvia from high-quality birch plywood and solid wood, using top-class ecologically safe coatings.
