Having evaluated trademarks registered by Latvian applicants in Latvia and the European Union in the FOURTH quarter 2025, an expert committee of the Latvian Patent Office (LPO) selected the next eight candidates for the main prize of the Trademark of the Year 2025 award. With a series of publications, we are introducing the companies – owners of creative, expressive and strong trademarks that are the candidates for the main prize in various nomination categories.

Nomination: Trademark of the Year for Latvia

Category: Word Marks

Name first, then company – Karma Sock trademark

Socks are something you buy for yourself or give to someone else as a way of showing respect or saying “Thank you”.  This idea forms the basis of the registered trademark of the KarmaSocks textile (sock) wholesale company, which bears the same name.

The name of both the company and the registered trademark was created even before the company was founded in 2024.

“The name symbolizes the good karma that each of us can cultivate in everyday life by giving others joy and love. In case of Karma Sock, the spreading of good karma happens through socks — it is an opportunity to provide pleasant emotions, comfort, and joy in daily life,” shares company board member Aleksandrs Geržatovičs.

Nomination: Trademark of the Year for the European Union

Category: Figurative Marks

Light inspired trademark

Since 2019, the ILUM 8 company  has been offering modern frame houses. To create a sense of cosiness and warmth for its customers, it has developed its figurative trade mark. The company specialises in the design and construction of contemporary and  energy-efficient  wood frame houses. All production takes place in Latvia, ensuring a complete construction cycle – from structural works to interior finishing. Over the course of five years, ILUM 8 has significantly expanded its offer by developing functional and aesthetically well-considered house models.

The company’s name comes from the word “ilum”, meaning light, reflecting the company’s desire to bring light into every client’s home. The number 8 symbolises infinity and the aspiration to produce houses that last for years and provide lasting comfort.

“ILUMHOUSE represents light, security and a sustainable future for every family,” says company board member Konstantins Uļbiks.

The procedure for the LPO’s Trademark of the Year award is organized in two stages. First, once a quarter, experienced LPO experts select four trademarks in the Trademark of the Year for Latvia nomination and four trademarks – in the Trademark of the Year for the European Union nomination that are further forwarded for the second evaluation stage. The winner of the Trademark of the Year 2025 award will be determined among 16 trademarks registered with the LPO under the national procedure and 16 trademarks registered with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
