In 2026, experts of the Latvian Patent Office (LPO) continue to evaluate registered trademarks and nominate candidates for the Trademark of the Year 2026 award. Throughout the year, we will introduce the nominees in a quarterly series of publications.
Nomination: Trademark of the Year for the European Union
Category: Word Mark
A trademark that symbolises the healthiest bee sting – BEE BITE
Honey and its products have long been recognised as highly valuable, biologically active substances used to improve health or simply to maintain it. One such product is bee bread, which contains all amino acids, nearly all vitamins, omega-3, -6 and -9 fatty acids, beneficial bacteria, and a wide range of micro- and macro-elements, including magnesium, calcium, manganese, iron, potassium, copper, and many others.
For the past 11 years, the company has been producing natural food supplements made from bee bread, pollen and berries. It was founded by mother and daughter Zinta Spēlmane and Anete Ozoliņa, who believe that the company name and trademark “BEE BITE” symbolise the healthiest bee sting imaginable.
Anete Ozoliņa says that the idea for the product was born when, while living and travelling outside Latvia, she wanted to continue using bee bread as part of her daily routine. Carrying a jar around was not handy, so the idea of creating packaging that would allow this valuable product to be taken anywhere and used conveniently throughout the day was born.
Nomination: Trademark of the Year for Latvia

The figurative trademark of “Rīgas piena kombināts” – historic and widely recognised
The origins of JSC “Rīgas piena kombināts” date back almost a century, to 1928, when the company was founded. The name “Rīgas piena kombināts” has been officially used since 1940. Since the mid-20th century, many consumers have recognised the company by its distinctive logo featuring a little figure with a milk bottle.
Over the years, the company’s ownership changed, yet its symbol was preserved in various forms to the present day. In 2026, following the decision to return to the company’s historic name, “Rīgas piena kombināts”, the company also chose to revive its historic symbol, introducing new colours and new applications, and registering it as a figurative trademark.
Artūrs Čirjevskis, Chairman of the Management Board, emphasises that “Rīgas piena kombināts” is a recognised and trusted name. After a 15-year break, the company’s historic name has been returned and its historic symbol restored. It has proven itself as a reliable mark of quality, and the company will continue to highlight it to the highest standards.”
The LPO’s Intellectual Property Award “Trademark of the Year” is organised in two stages. First, each quarter, experienced LPO’s experts select four trademarks in the nomination “Trademark of the Year for Latvia” and four trademarks in the nomination “Trademark of the Year for the European Union”, which are then put forward for evaluation in the second stage.
The winners in both nominations of the “Trademark of the Year 2026” will be selected from among 16 trademarks registered with the LPO under the national procedure and 16 trademarks registered with the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
