In 2026, experts of the Latvian Patent Office (LPO) continue to evaluate registered trademarks and nominate candidates for the Trademark of the Year 2026 award. Throughout the year, we will introduce the nominees in a quarterly series of publications.
Nomination: Trademark of the Year for the European Union
Category: Word Mark
World-class quality and innovations from Latvian spruce – Sonablock
SIA “Stiga RM” is one of Latvia’s leading wood-processing companies, and its acoustic panels “Sonablock” are recognised far beyond Latvia’s borders. The “Sonablock” trademark was created to represent sustainable, high-value-added acoustic solutions made from Latvian timber in international markets. The panels are manufactured from Latvian spruce at the world’s most advanced robotic acoustic timber panel factory in Tukums.
The name “Sonablock” was inspired by the Latin word “sonus” (sound) and the English word “block”, symbolising noise control and the creation of acoustic comfort. The brand’s visual identity depicts a stylised sound wave and a structured timber material, while embodying innovation, precision, and a sustainable approach to natural resources.
Andris Ramoliņš, owner and Chairman of the Management Board of “Stiga RM”, emphasises: “Sonablock is not just a product – it is proof that a world-class brand can be created in Latvia, combining sustainable forestry, cutting-edge technology, and high-value-added manufacturing.”
Nomination: Trademark of the Year for Latvia

A trademark that embodies Latvian diligence and love of work – MĀJRAŽOTĀJU TIRDZIŅŠ
One of the core areas of activity of SIA “SP&DE” has been the organisation of markets for small-scale producers, farmers and craftspeople for more than ten years. As the company expanded, the need arose to register a figurative trademark, which was successfully completed at the beginning of 2026. Today, the logo “MĀJRAŽOTĀJU TIRDZIŅŠ” (Home Producers’ Market) is recognised in at least five neighbourhoods of Riga – Bieriņi, Jugla, Čiekurkalns, Mežciems and the Latgale district — where the markets are regularly held.
The figurative trademark “MĀJRAŽOTĀJU TIRDZIŅŠ” has been designed to resemble cross-stitch embroidery. It incorporates both a symbol – two wagtails facing a heart at the centre – and the name “Mājražotāju tirdziņš”. The graphic identity encodes handicraft work (cross-stitch embroidery), Latvia’s national bird (the white wagtail), and love (the heart). The red colour was also chosen deliberately, as it reflects the colour of the Latvian national flag.
“Taken together, these elements symbolise Latvian diligence and a love of work. People like these – small business owners – are the foundation of the national economy, and I am honoured to call them my colleagues,” says the company’s manager, Kaspars Spunde.
The LPO’s Intellectual Property Award “Trademark of the Year” is organised in two stages. First, each quarter, experienced Patent Office experts select four trademarks in the nomination “Trademark of the Year for Latvia” and four trademarks in the nomination “Trademark of the Year for the European Union”, which are then put forward for evaluation in the second stage.
The winners in both nominations of the “Trademark of the Year 2026” will be selected from among 16 trademarks registered with the LPO under the national procedure and 16 trademarks registered with the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
